Criticism over family detention has grown in the past couple of months. The pressure is on for the Obama Administration as eight house democrats will be visiting two family detention centers next week.
This trip will help them see for themselves the true conditions in which these mothers and children are currently in. It will also allow them to learn about the experiences and concerns that these families have. Many of those detained have fled from unspeakable hardship.
The influx of immigrants mainly from Central America – Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala – has caused for the Obama Administration to revive these family detention centers as a response to the situation.
California Rep. Judy Chu, one of the eight to be visiting, mentioned that members of Congress are watching what’s going on and will not turn a blind eye. It is said that they will be issuing a report upon their return from the visit to these facilities.
