Breaking Down the Naturalization Statistics for FY 2024 in the U.S.
In 2024, 818,500 new citizens were naturalized in the U.S. This represented a 7% decrease from the previous year; however, the three-year total exceeds 2.6 million new citizens to the country.
The most new citizens were naturalized in May with 76,300 while the least number of new citizens were naturalized in December at 53,500.
Of all the field offices, the following represented those where the largest number of new citizens were naturalized in 2024.
- Houston (3.3%)
- Dallas (3.3%)
- Chicago (3.3%)
- Newark (3.2%)
- San Francisco (2.9%)
The top five countries of birth made up 33% of the naturalized citizens for 2024. These countries were:
- Mexico (13.1%)
- India (6.1%)
- Philippines (5.0%)
- Dominican Republic (4.9%)
- Vietnam (4.1%)
As high as 70% of all naturalized citizens in 2024 resided in 10 states:
- California
- Florida
- New York
- Texas
- New Jersey
- Illinois
- Virginia
- Georgia
- Massachusetts
- Washington
The top five cities where naturalized citizens reported living in 2024 were:
- Miami
- Brooklyn
- The Bronx
- Houston
- Los Angeles
Over 37% of naturalized citizens in 2024 were aged 30- 44 while approximately 17% were younger than 30 years old. There were 23 naturalized citizens that were aged 100 and older.
Women were the majority of those naturalized in every age group, and women made up over 55% of the new citizens naturalized in 2024.
